News Crap and the Brand New News Machine
WORLD: Rupert Murdoch founder of global media giant News Corporation recently declared his intention to charge for his companies online News content by summer 2010. The revealed master plan met with widespread criticism across the web from anonymous bloggers to Google CEO Eric Schmidt. While traditional media companies struggle to find a profit in the brave new world of the Internet it is widely recognised that web users have grown use to free online content. Charging for news could therefore potentially drive readers away - except in instances of highly specialised information - i.e. NOT The Sun
Rupert Murdoch’s comments were humorous at times like the line “Quality journalism is not cheap” from the man who invented the gutter press… and the hilarious “The current days of the internet will soon be over.” … ha ha gonna turn it off are you mate?
